Why the country matters
The same shop is priced differently around the world. In the USA, Canada and the UK, rents are quoted per square foot per year; in Singapore and Hong Kong per square foot per month; in Australia per square metre per year; in India usually as a monthly amount. What you pay on top also changes: NNN charges or TMI in North America, business rates and service charges in the UK, outgoings in Australia, a management fee and rates in Hong Kong, and sales taxes such as GST, HST or VAT on commercial rent in many countries. Each guide explains the local rules, with sources and the date they were checked. Our commercial rent calculator converts between all these ways of quoting rent.
