- Keep the receipts with your business accounts, or give them to your employer for HRA if it is your home.
Questions people ask
Who needs rent receipts for a shop or office?
Shop and office tenants keep monthly rent receipts as proof of payment and for their business accounts. Owners use them to keep a clear record of the rent received. Salaried people who rent a home use them for House Rent Allowance (HRA).
Is the landlord's PAN required?
For HRA, employers usually ask for the landlord's PAN when the rent paid in the year is more than ₹1,00,000. Add it in the form and it is printed on every receipt.
Do I need a revenue stamp?
For rent paid in cash above ₹5,000, a revenue stamp is usually stuck on the receipt and signed across by the landlord. For UPI, bank transfer or cheque payments it is generally not needed. The generator adds a stamp box to cash receipts above ₹5,000.
What about GST or TDS on commercial rent?
Rent for commercial property can attract GST (when the landlord is GST-registered) and TDS (when the tenant must deduct tax at source). This simple receipt does not calculate them; ask your accountant if they apply to you.
